Cyril Sorongon is the man behind silverfilter. Being one of the pioneers in live electronic dance music, silverfilter has already set himself as a driving force in Filipino electronica. Being the founder of Electronica Manila, he has always pushed for the promotion of electronic music in the Philippines through their famous Electronica Manila tours and album releases of their artists. A versatile musician in his own right, silverfilter doesn't only limit himself to one genre and format. His music projects speaks for itself ranging from his guitar-vox set, to his dance sets, and to his bands. You can download and listen to some of his tracks on the "Media" link on this site.

He has always wanted to use his real name. However, there's this famous Filipino DJ whose name is Cyril as well so he had to use another name to distinguish him from the other. Even until today, when people find out that his name is Cyril, they often ask if he's that DJ. So, silverfilter it is.

using the small letter "s" for silverfilter is simply for balance on how the name is seen.

This is probably the most asked question of all time... "silverfilter is an alliteration. This makes it sound catchy. Now, in terms of word use: Silver for me connotes a sense of sophistication and maturity. This is how I want my music to come across. Filter on the other hand, is an integral part of electronic music production so it fits well."

Getting himself involved in different types of music, silverfilter covers the following styles: Techno, House, Chillout, Lounge, Downtempo, Breakbeats, and electro.

He draws inspiration from these artists: Underworld, Ritchie Hawtin, Fatboy Slim, Thievery Corp, and Miguel Migs. For local artists, he looks up to Houseboy and Rubber Inc.

silverfilter is tied up finishing a couple of albums for release.

silverfilter is known to be one of the finest live electronic acts in the country. He has toured all over the country from the most happening places in Manila, to Boracay, to Davao, and more. Since much of his focus is on his live sets, he has included a "live" link on this site so you can learn more about his live life! Check it out!

Definitely. Just check out the gig schedule on the site!

The guitar-vox set was born out of a desire to penetrate the rock scene with electronic music from silverfilter. Coming from a rock background, silverfilter has always wanted to share his music with the scene he grew up in and have been trying to find ways to bridge that gap. His first attempts were more inclined to playing aggressive drum and bass sets at rock events, which were well received, but not enough. Finally, the addition of some singing and his trusty guitar made all the difference. With the help of Mic Freak during the birth of his live guitar-set performances, silverfilter’s guitar-vox set has made its mark becoming one of the best live electronic performances around.

The Silverfilter is the songwriting outlet of Cyril, the man behind silverfilter. He has put together a full band for songs he wrote and recorded all by himself.

Yes. He has a couple of projects lined up but at the moment are put on hold as he finishes his upcoming album.

Nope. silverfilter came from a rock background so he'll always have that part of him who'll always be looking for that band environment. He's currently a vocalist in a funk band and are currently finishing their album slated for release soon.

"Well, I'm glad that it has started to pick up since the creation of Electronica Manila. All the members of the group have made their contribution in bringing electronic music to the Filipino people. Today, people are slowly becoming aware that we have our own electronic music right within our shores and they don't need to go looking outside the country if we want homegrown electronica. With Rubber Inc paving the way when they started in the late 90's and now, Emanila artists. I see a bright future in Pinoy electronica. Just give it time and we will get there."

"Well, I think silverfilter is part of a whole group of individuals working hand in hand to promote electronic music in the Philippines. I'm just doing my share in letting the people know we can also do electronica. We all have our own means and styles in promoting the music and ourselves but in the end we're just after one goal... the acceptance of local electronica among the Pinoy listeners. That one day, we won't need to struggle in making people understand what we do and Filipinos can embrace out craft the way they do to rock acts and others."
